PoopBags, Inc. Spotlighting Pets of the Homeless This Holiday Season

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) November 16, 2011

PoopBags, Inc., a Chicago-based company that manufactures and distributes biodegradable dog waste bags, wanted to take a moment to pause this hectic 2011 Holiday Season and remember the less fortunate. The company decided to highlight and accept donations for Pets of the Homeless, which is a national, nonprofit volunteer organization that provides pet food and veterinary care to the homeless and less fortunate in local communities across the United States and Canada.

President Paul D. Cannella explained the PoopBags decision to team up with Pets of the Homeless, “This cause really touches our hearts at PoopBags. In this economy, so many of us are one paycheck away from homelessness. Personally, I would give up my house before Lucy, my Labrador/Dalmatian mix.”

When asked how she conceived of Pets of the Homeless, Genevieve Frederick responded, “In 2006, my husband and I had visited New York City and saw a homeless man on the sidewalk begging and laying along his side was a pathetic dog. When I returned home I started researching the homeless with pets. I asked myself, ‘Why would those folks who can barely feed themselves have a pet?’ The answer became obvious; their pets are nonjudgmental, providing comfort and an emotional bond of loyalty. In some cases, they provide the homeless with protection and keep them warm.”

Cannella added, “Genevieve’s efforts are commendable and awe-inspiring. Additionally, 85% of donations go directly to veterinary care, pet food and sleeping crates. That is an amazingly high percentage for any nonprofit organization.”

PoopBags, Inc. will be accepting donations at the $ 1.00, $ 5.00, $ 10.00 and $ 25.00 levels until December 26, 2011. A $ 25.00 donation will allow Pets of the Homeless to feed and provide veterinary care for 3 dogs a day.

PoopBags, Inc. is also encouraging people to donate food to a local collection site. A listing of sites may be found at http://www.petsofthehomeless.org/collection-sites. If their areas do not have a similar program, the company suggests donating food directly to local shelters. For more information, please visit http://www.poopbags.com.
