Florida Men’s Health Center Introduces A New Approach To Testosterone in Men That Is Now Supported by The American Urological Association
Miami, Florida (PRWEB) August 16, 2011
Florida Men’s Health Center is a men’s medical clinic and center for urology addressing and treating numerous types of men’s health issues while focusing primarily on Erectile Dysfunction. For testosterone in men of all ages, it is encouraged to test their testosterone levels and now provide a boost testosterone supplement for those in need. The test checks for hormone and androgen in the blood. Dr. Liron Beltzer, Medical Director of Florida Men’s Health Center believes that testosterone plays a critical role in setting the pace for a man’s sex drive and sexual experience. Recently, The American Urological Association (AUA) supports that men experience a natural and expected decline in testosterone as they age which can cause libido to fade. There are numerous factors that can work against sexual desire as midlife approaches. Men should certainly consider their testosterone as a mean of prohibiting their sex life.
Testosterone levels peak in the mid-20s for both men and woman. For men, testosterone levels then start to decrease by approximately 1% per year after age 30 and then drop more rapidly as they approach older age and into their 70s. Luckily, appropriate treatment such as testosterone replacement treatment can help restore the hormone to a level that will set in motion the sexual accelerator. Different treatments include topical gels, patches, injections and low testosterone medicine. Dr. Beltzer, at his Miami health center, adds that “unfortunately, testosterone treatment has been misrepresented and too often altered which can lead to money spent without reaching good results as well as posing actual health risks for some.” There are many advertisers, infomercials and herbal remedy alternatives spread throughout the Internet that offer anti-aging and sexual benefits of testosterone treatments. Dr. Beltzer advises patients to view these claims with caution and skepticism. Men need to make sure that they are seen by a physician and be supervised throughout the course of treatment. There’s even a great importance as to what time of the day the blood was drawn in order to reach an accurate diagnosis (in men, testosterone levels peak in the morning). Men also need to take into account that fatigue, erectile dysfunction, decreased libido and weight gain could be originating from a different underlying pathology which is not related to testosterone (although symptoms are the same) and should be further investigated by a physician in order to be ruled out or to be treated if and when necessary.
As men age erectile dysfunction also becomes more common. Drugs such as Viagra (sildenafil citrate) are often prescribed and can help men achieve and maintain an adequate erection for sexual activity. It was recently suggested that even the use of the well-known Viagra might not be fully beneficial for patients whose testosterone levels are low. Viagra does not produce an instant erection; sexual stimulation is needed in order to achieve the erection. In addition, Viagra does not have any effect on libido. Dr. Beltzer advises that patients with low testosterone who seek appropriate treatment consult with a Sexual Health specialist to determine the best approach.
Dr. Beltzer also emphasizes that other factors such as sleep deprivation, stress, obesity and cardiovascular disease should not be disregarded when trying to restore or keep up sex drive. These are all aspects that with no question have an effect on sexual and overall health. Studies have proven that having a healthy sex life can improve health and wellbeing. Sex is not only for the young and beautiful! The necessity for intimacy is ageless, and sex can remain just as pleasurable and satisfying.
Both men and women should take initiative to reclaim and improve their sex life since it is a key for a healthy relationship as well as for general, physical and emotional health.
In addition, a new study suggested that testosterone may improve sexual function in certain women. Although testosterone is considered to be a male hormone it is also produced by women and starts to decline with menopause. Some researchers are suggesting that replacing it may also help improve a women’s sexual function. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has not yet approved any testosterone treatment for women however there are currently ongoing clinical trials.
