Campbell, CA (PRWEB) February 22, 2012

Technology education leader iD Gaming Academy recently announced a new partnership with GUNNAR Optiks, manufacturer of advanced computer and gaming eyewear. The partnership will provide all students of iD Gaming Academy’s teen gaming camps with access to computer eyewear for use during the pre-college programs. Students will also have an ongoing opportunity to win a personal pair per program session.

According to iD Gaming Academy CEO, Pete Ingram-Cauchi, the partnership is part of iD’s strategy for staying ahead of the curve. “Technology moves fast. We work hard to keep our curriculum completely up to date – and that includes using the latest products and software. As our students continue working hard, we want to ensure that their health is protected and that their eyes are not strained. To that effect, we’re proud to partner with GUNNAR Optiks to place its computer eyewear for regular use in the classroom.”

The iD Gaming Academy is an intensive pre-college program where student gamers learn the technologies behind their hobbies. In the two-week overnight summer programs, teens learn everything from the basics of how to create video games to level design with the Unreal® Development Kit, 3D modeling and animation with Autodesk® Maya®, programming for the Xbox 360®, and iPhone® and Android™ game development with Unity.

Its intensive curriculum gives students a new perspective on the technology that they use every day, and provides practical experience that sets them apart from peers on college applications. Academy students get a feel for possible future careers through industry guest speakers from Google, Electronic Arts™, and more. They also tour real gaming studios and graduate with industry-standard online portfolios to showcase their work.

“iD Gaming Academy students are our future game developers, designers, and innovators,” says Rob Aarnes, President, GUNNAR Optiks. “As such, we want to ensure that their eyes are protected from exposure to digital screens as early as possible, all while providing an optimized digital learning experience. We’re honored to be working with a leader in pre-college technology education and look forward to helping its students excel.”

Each iD Gaming Academy session, hosted at universities including Stanford, Harvard, Texas Christian University, Vassar College, and Lake Forest College, will end with a student raffle for a free pair of GUNNAR Optiks eyewear. The eyewear creates a more comfortable and rich visual experience, improving visual efficiency, endurance, and recovery, while combating eye fatigue during extended hours of gaming. The eyewear is a technical solution that helps minimize eye fatigue and visual stress while improving contrast, comfort, and focus. The patented I-AMP lens technology is comprised of a proprietary lens material in an advanced geometry tuned for intermediate viewing distance and finished with custom formulated lens filters, tints, and coatings.

Main features of GUNNAR Optiks eyewear lens include:

Tint: The Amber lens tint is designed to increase overall contrast, detail, and resolution by filtering out harsh fluorescent light and reducing high-intensity blue light. The result is a warmer, more natural light spectrum that minimizes the stress on your eyes, supporting sustained focus and alertness during marathon gaming sessions.
Shape: The highly wrapped, curved lens shape limits air currents near the eyes, creating a higher humidity environment. This increased moisture helps reduce dry eyes and prevent irritation. The lens geometry pre-focuses the light to help support the eye’s natural focusing power to enhance detail for sharper, clearer vision.
Coatings: The lens coatings are designed to reduce glare and protect the lens. Our coatings include an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare and reflections, and a hard coat that reduces environmental damage and minimizes scratching of the lens material.
Material: The proprietary lens material is optically pure for the clearest image possible and comprised of lightweight materials for long-haul ergonomics.
Fit: The lens and frame solution is constructed with the most advanced lightweight, yet durable materials available. With adjustable nose pads and an ergonomically friendly fit, GUNNAR eyewear delivers both comfort and style. The eSPORT collection of advanced gaming eyewear also features interchangeable, headset compatible temples to improve comfort while gaming with GUNNARs and a headset at the same time.

Exton, PA (PRWEB) February 21, 2012

Absorption Systems, a world leader in drug transporters, announces that a new U.S. patent issued on January 31st, protecting intellectual property around its P-glycoprotein (P-gp) knockdown cell line within the company’s CellPort Technologies® brand. The new patent, number 8,105,828, extends the patent coverage on the company’s transporter knockdown technology beyond previously issued patents in the U.S., Europe, and Panama. Absorption Systems’ proprietary, cell-based test systems enable drug developers to definitively predict clinical drug-drug interactions (DDIs) involving drug transporters.

DDIs represent an underappreciated healthcare problem and can lead to side effects, therapeutic failure, or death. The antiarrhythmic drug digoxin is the most common victim of DDIs involving P-gp due to its narrow margin of safety. The risk is particularly high among the elderly due to the fact that most elderly people take multiple medications. According to an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association, as many as 2.2 million older Americans are at risk of a major DDI, nearly all of which could be avoided with identification, awareness, and avoidance of such combinations.

The newly patented in vitro test systems were the brainchild of Absorption Systems’ Chief Scientist, Dr. Ismael Hidalgo, who leads the company’s research and development in preclinical testing, which includes collaborations with academic, industrial, and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) scientists. He said, “This patent is another validation of our commitment to developing better, more predictive tools that improve drug safety and ultimately save lives. CellPort Technologies can provide very definitive data on drug transporters that is required by regulatory agencies such as the FDA. And the technology is exclusive to Absorption Systems.”

CellPort Technologies is a suite of cell lines designed to provide definitive data regarding interactions between drugs and specific transport proteins. Drug transporters have been identified by regulatory agencies such as the FDA and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) as key mediators of unintended DDIs.* To create these test systems, Absorption Systems scientists used RNA interference to knock down the expression of one transporter at a time, in such a way that the resulting knockdown phenotypes are stable. By using the knockdown cells in parallel with the parental cells, it becomes very clear, by process of elimination, if a drug interacts with a specific transporter.

About Absorption Systems

Absorption Systems, founded in 1996, assists pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies in identifying and overcoming ADMET (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion and Toxicity) barriers in the development of drugs, biologics and medical devices. The company’s mission is to continually develop innovative research tools that can be used to accurately predict human outcomes or to explain unanticipated human outcomes when they occur. The CellPort Technologies® platform, a suite of human cell-based tests systems for drug transporter characterization, exemplifies Absorption Systems’ commitment to innovation and is soon to be an industry assay standard for in vitro drug interaction assessment. Absorption Systems has facilities near Philadelphia, PA, and in San Diego, CA, and serves customers throughout the world.

What Is the High School Traffic Safety Challenge?

Founded in 1990, the DRIVE SMART High School Traffic Safety Challenge invites students in Teller and El Paso counties to create safety campaigns addressing driving concerns, such as seat belt use, traffic laws, and dangers of driving while distracted or under the influence.

From producing public service announcements for radio and television and writing plays to presenting car crash rescue simulations and inviting speakers to their schools, student teams choose how they want to convey their messages.

Dedicated representatives from local businesses, government, hospitals, law enforcement, and military come together to help these teens create messages. One such business, McDivitt Law Firm, has sponsored the video public service announcement (PSA) portion of the challenge since 2009. This year, the law firm awarded $ 500 to the group that produced the winning video and covered the cost to televise the PSA on several networks.

Get Involved with DRIVE SMART

Many programs need operating funds and volunteers to assist with the various events, and sponsors and volunteers are always welcome. To get involved, call Maile Gray, Executive Director of DRIVE SMART Colorado, at (719) 444-7534, or attend a DRIVE SMART Steering Committee meeting on the second Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held at 10 a.m. at the Gold Hill Police Department substation located at 955 W. Moreno Avenue in Colorado Springs.

Singapore (PRWEB) February 18, 2012

To help chart the course for future corporate development in Singapore the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) in collaboration and Janus Corporate Solutions, hosted a seminar on ‘Next Steps for Representative Offices’ at the SBF headquarters. The seminar was attended by top executives and senior managers of 26 foreign companies with Representative Offices in Singapore. The attendees came from a variety of industries including manufacturing, transport, logistics, and F&B. The event was part of SBFs and Janus’s collaborative efforts in positioning the country as an operational base for foreign companies that want to enter or expand in the South East Asian market.

Mr. Lauw Kok Keen, SBF Global-Asia Hub Dept. said that SBF is organising the RO Briefing as part of its role in helping and facilitating foreign companies to set up a base in Singapore in order to expand into the Asian region.

Subsequent to the welcome address, attendees were given a comprehensive presentation by the Janus Team headed by Ms. Jacqueline Low, Director of Janus Corporate Solutions. The presentation provided first-hand, relevant, practical, and actionable information about the benefits, ease and process of setting up a permanent establishment in Singapore. Participants were briefed on the process for establishing a permanent presence in the country by either setting up a Singapore subsidiary or a Singapore branch office. The seminar covered several relevant topics including comparison between the two options, their incorporation procedures, their respective tax benefits, compliance requirements, and the Singapore Employment Pass work visa scheme for the foreign staff.

Commenting on the timeliness of the seminar, Ms. Jacqueline Low said, “With the ascendancy of Asia in the global economic order, Singapore has been gaining prominence as a destination to do business. This is the reason why many foreign companies have established a Representative Office here. Since a Singapore representative office is a temporary arrangement and can only exist for a maximum of three years, we wanted the existing representative offices to gain a good understanding about setting up a permanent establishment in Singapore as the next logical step. As an incorporation and compliance services firm, Janus is committed to helping businesses establish and grow their presence in Singapore and we are pleased to partner with SBF for this cause. We look forward to collaborating on more such events with professional bodies such as the SBF.”

The seminar not only proved to be an invaluable platform where participants received strategic guidance on how they can leverage Singapore’s strengths as a business destination but also helped them engage in an active dialogue with Janus professionals to gain clarity about setting up a permanent establishment in Singapore. The event was very well received by the attendees who engaged in a lively Q&A session at the conclusion of the seminar.

New York, NY (PRWEB) February 17, 2012

Black Book Rankings, well known internationally for accurate, impartial customer satisfaction surveys in the services and software industries, conducted a sweeping four month user poll to determine the highest ranked Electronic Health and Medical Record organizations for 2012. As part of a special research focus on several specialty physician EMR users, Black Book announced those vendors with the highest scores in customer experience in the areas of Document Management, Practice Administration and Revenue Cycle Management, E-Prescribing, and Accessibility.

The EMR market is expected to grow an average of nearly 20% annually, primarily because of the government’s meaningful use incentive program, but the marketplace has become quite crowded, and overall usability is the main factor that will keep vendors competitive.

The electronic medical record market is expected to increase to $ 6.1 billion by 2015, up from $ 2.2 billion in 2009, according Black Book Research. There are more than 1,000 EMR providers in the market.

Based on the aggregate client experience and customer satisfaction scores on eighteen key performance indicators, the top ranked electronic health records systems for 2012 include by practice size:

SINGLE PHYSICIAN (1) PRACTICES: CARE360 QUEST DIAGNOSTICS

2-5 PHYSICIAN GROUP PRACTICES: ADP ADVANCEDMD

6-25 PHYSICIAN GROUP PRACTICES: APRIMA

26-99 PHYSICIAN GROUP PRACTICES: GREENWAY MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES

100-249 PHYSICIAN GROUP PRACTICES: MED3000

250+ PHYSICIAN GROUP PRACTICES: NEXTGEN

Other top scoring vendors include Allscripts, AmazingCharts, Bizmatics, Epic Systems, GE Healthcare, Cerner, McKesson, Practice Fusion, Vitera (Sage), athenahealthcare, eClinicalWorks, eMDs, SRS Soft, gMed, Medinformatix, ChartLogic, Henry Schein Medical Micro MD, Sevocity, SOAPware, Waiting Room Solutions, Praxis, Spring Medical, ComChart, Dr First/Rcopia, Streamline MD, Nightingale. SimplifyMD, Sequel Systems, Siemens, CPSI, MediTech, Polaris, Raintree and Ingenix.

“High performing vendors have emerged from the pack as practice implementations succeed and fail,”announced Scott Wilson, Partner of Black Book Rankings. Full results can be found on http://www.blackbookrankings.com for 2012

Black Book Rankings surveyed over 70,000 healthcare records professionals, physician practice administrators, and hospital leaders in the information technology arenas to provide EMR users, media, investors, quality minded vendors, and prospective buyers of EMR/EHR software with a comprehensive comparison of the industry’s top respected and performing vendors. Black Book Rankings employs detailed key performance indicators targeted at ensuring high product and service performance through comparing vendors from the customer experience.

EMR is a part of healthcare information technology that is used to make paperless computerized patient data in order to increase efficiency of hospital systems and reduce chances of errors in medical records. A substantial growth rate (more than 16%) of the U.S. healthcare IT spending and the government initiatives towards development of a nationwide healthcare information network are expected to push EMR implementation across the healthcare sector in the U.S. The rising demand for the healthcare cost containment and need to improve the quality of healthcare service are driving the growth of the EMR market in the U.S. The U.S. EMR market is expected to grow from $ 2.2B in 2009 to $ 6.1B in 2015 at an estimated CAGR of 18.1% during the forecast period 2010-2015.

Web-based EMR systems are gaining traction with smaller healthcare practices and private physician practices due to lower implementation costs, the report stated, while hospitals and other large healthcare practices typically use client-server based EMR systems, which comprise roughly 76 percent of the EMR software market. The development of interoperable EMR solutions is also the biggest focus among companies in the market.

Though large-sized healthcare practices prefer on-site/client-server based EMR systems, web-based EMR solutions or ASP models are gaining higher popularity within the small sized healthcare practices and private physician offices.

CLONING CHRIST By Peter Thomas Senese

Los Angeles (PRWEB) February 15, 2012

In an exclusive offer that benefits children targeted for international child abduction, Peter Thomas Senese’s thrilling theological thriller Cloning Christ, is now available in e-book on Amazon for Kindle readers. CLONING CHRIST author Peter Thomas Senese’s electrifying best-selling theological thriller evolves around the challenge of science and faith, commencing with a genomic scientiest’s discovery of what appears to be the True Cross of Jesus of Nazareth. Mr. Senese, a highly respected child advocate is donating 100% of his e-book royalties to the I CARE Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting children who have been internationally abducted. Over the past month, the I CARE Foundation has reunited 4 abducted children with their families while also continuing to build the Department of State’s ‘Hague Convention Attorney Network’ – a pro bono network of lawyers willing to assist the families of abducted children.

Peter Thomas Senese’s theological thrill ride, darting from Israel through Europe to the United States, focuses on Dr. Max Train, a leading genetic scientist from Syracuse, New York. Max was once a devout believer in God, but now lives a faithless life following the brutal slaying of his beloved wife and four year old autistic daughter twelve years ago.

After the widely publicized trial during which Max is rightfully found innocent of his family’s murder pinned on him by corrupt dark forces, Max vacations in Israel. During an earthquake outside of Jerusalem, he discovers what appears to be the True Cross Jesus of Nazareth was crucified on nearly two thousand years ago.

Max may hold the fate of Mankind in his hands. If this is the True Cross and Christ was cloned from the remaining blood stains and hair remnants on the cross, would government and religion become obsolete upon His Second Coming? If the blood stains and hair are those of Jesus, then what does this say about the long held belief Christ rose whole and entire upon his resurrection? Where would the battle lines be drawn between the advances in science and the beliefs of religion? What effect would this knowledge have on one’s faith and beliefs? Soon after, and in the hallowed halls of the Vatican a righteous Cardinal, Anselm Mugant, hears of the discovery in Jerusalem. Without the Pope’s knowledge and in clear opposition to all Catholic teaching, the wayward prelate will stop at nothing – even murder – in his bid to prevent human cloning from taking place, including his misconceived belief Max Train has intent to clone the possible body of Christ.

Mugant soon enlists the services of the internationally rumored assassin known simply as The Scorpion to track down Max and silence him with death. The Scorpion, a onetime penitent of the Cardinal, is a force of pure evil and who challenges life. He forces this same challenge onto Max as he casts a deadly shadow over his praised soul and every move he makes.

Adding intricate subterfuge to the plot is the existence of Mugant’s “Fifth Crusade”, five international industrialists with great power and reach devout in the Cardinal’s perspective on human genetic science, and controlled by Mugant’s knowledge of their deepest secrets. Together, Mugant launches an all-out attack to find the ancient artifacts in Train’s possession, and prevent the genetic scientist from doing the unthinkable in his eyes – announcing to the world a cross containing bodily remnants could indeed by the True Cross of Jesus of Nazareth – and clone the body of Christ!

Cloning Christ spins a tangled and intricate web of deceit, blackmail, violence, loss, faith, forgiveness, truth and acceptance in a story that questions the right to clone, while responding to the needs and harsh realities of life as we know it. Cloning Christ is the story of life and the sacredness of it, as shared in the novel that leaves you racing to turn the page.

Top Amazon book critic Harriett Klausner commented, “Fans will relish this thriller. The tale is loaded with action yet uses the characters as symbols of mankind similar to a medieval passion play like Everyman. The cast represents the faithful, the disbelievers, the dividers (torn between science and religion) or the selfish. “Cloning Christ” brings the debate of religion vs. science to the forefront in an exciting manner that focuses on the sacredness of life.”

Mr. Senese commented, “Cloning Christ is an absolute theological thriller that takes the reader directly to the question, ‘How would you clone Jesus of Nazareth – The Christ’? In my interpretation of that question, my answer is to follow His teachings – and that is to act best I can in kindness towards others while also being mindful not to be taken adavantage of in such acts. Still … writing and creating this story was at times joyful because it allowed me to think about many issues that brought me closer to my own faith. I am very pleased to know that years after its initial release, and with some very interesting things on the horizon for this story, readers everywhere will have access to this thoughtful and provocative story via e-book.”

Peter Thomas Senese is a storyteller focusing on messages in all formats that bespeak global connectivity. He is actively involved in supporting issues that impact the lives of children, including demonstrative support to keep our nation’s public libraries properly funded and open seven days a week; and, actively engaged in numerous and extensive activities surrounding international child abduction prevention; and, actively advocating for new legislation that will protect children and others from malicious online impersonation.

100% of the author’s royalties earned from e-book sales of Cloning Christ will be donated to the I CARE Foundation.

Mr. Senese’s other noteworthy novels include The Den of the Assassin, and, Chasing The Cyclone. For more information on Peter Thomas Senese, please visit the official website of Peter Thomas Senese to read more about Peter’s writing and advocacy work.

New York, NY (PRWEB) February 12, 2012

Well CBS has done it again. They revived their successful Reality TV Show Formula that combines studs, thugs & drama queens and exiles them to a secluded location to battle it out using brains, brawn and “Barely There” bathing suits in pursuit of a $ 1,000,000 prize.

Based on their names, and the onomalogic research of Kerrie Hopkins, which of these 18 Cast Members of Survivor will be the most competitive, most annoying, most high maintenance, friendliest & most fun?

Well – for starts – here are the names of the survivors who’ll be battling with each other while pretending to be best alliances: Alicia, Chelsea, Sabrina, Christina, Kat, Kim, Kourtney, Monica, Nina, Bill, Colton, “Tarzan” Greg, Jay, Jonas, Leif, Matt, Michael & “Troy-zan” Troy.

The two most abundant things on the “Survivor: One World” Island will be hydrogen and “balls” & that’s referring to the woman’s side of the island. Wow are these women tough. It’s going to be like a Chernobyl of estrogen in their tribe. Every one of them has a “tell it like it is” attitude and mouth. Kourtney & Chelsea will be the most entertaining of this crew but none of them can refrain from telling everyone else what they should be doing. They’ll all have a fuse that can go off at any time. Their tribe should be called the “Grenades” instead of “Salani,” Christina’s fuse may be slightly longer because a “Christina” is used to dealing with stress – but due to her last name – her fuse will be attached to dynamite.

Forget about getting Alicia, Greg, Jonas or Monica to do work around the camp – it would be easier asking the school bully to borrow some lunch money.

Monica will be shrewd, curious & cautious as to whom she aligns with. She’ll get along best with guys – she knows how to talk their talk – that’s her type of personality. Consequently the women will feel threatened by her – so Monica shouldn’t be surprised when the women steal her bug spray, force her to sleep under the leaky part of the roof or try to use her hair as a starter log.

As for The Troy “Troy-zan” vs Greg “Tarzan” Lantz Smith saga – They’ll be interesting to watch. Think of it as CBS ‘s very own prime time version of “Alien vs Predator.”

If having fun were a sport, Chelsea, Kourtney, Leif, Michael & Bill, would be on the varsity team. In between looking for the Hidden Idol, I’m sure they’ll keep a look out for a tiki bar or volcano party lounge. If one exists, one of these people will find it first – they just love a good time.

Colton, Tarzan-Greg, Nina, Monica & Jonas will all want to be loved; they’ll want it now, it needs to be genuine, unconditional and they’re be willing to pretend to be in an alliance with them to get it.

Chivalry will be the new peanut allergy – if the men see one of their Manono tribe being too nice to the woman’s tribe – which is what a Matt, Michael or Jay would naturally do – his days will be numbered.

Don’t trust Sabrina, Kim, Nina, Monica, Jonas, Michael, Tarzan-Greg, Colton, Troy-zan or Matt as far as one can throw them – they’re there to win. They’ll talk out of both sides of their mouth and nothing will ever be their fault or responsibility. They think quick on their feet and could win a Gold Medal in excuses. They’re use and exploitation of networks, allegiances & alliances will be so shrewd, so strategic and so convoluted that everyone of them – will test positive for B.S.

Kat,Chelsea, Sabrina, Alicia, Kourtney, Tarzan Greg, Matt, Leif and Colton will talk too much – They love to talk – it’s just their nature.

And they all suffer from “gossip dyslexia” – they tend to gossip in front of other people’s backs.

Kim & Troy-zan will be particular, secretive & observant. They’ll know everything about everyone else, but people will know little about them.

Tarzan-Greg, Jonas, Monica, Nina, Sabrina, Alicia & Kim are all “high maintenance” type people. They’ll be the ones who request the Hut with the “Turn Down” service. They like being pampered, and they’re used to having/or are striving to have – all the comforts of life. Hopefully they’ll win the rewards that allow them to stay in hotels etc. To them, having massages, eating great food, and living among luxury – is like returning to their mother ship.

Jay, Leif, Matt, Michael, & Kat (only because of her last name), will be the “Hamburger Helpers” of the island – the type, who are always trying to help out, so as to make things more convenient for everyone else around them.

Tarzan-Greg, Mike, Monica & Alicia will all have black belts in sarcasm. Monica & Bill will be the most fortunate, while “Michael Jefferson” and “Matt Quinlan” have the most affable, all round competitive, yet likable name/personalities.

(PRWEB) February 08, 2012

Moffitt Cancer Center, Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute and Florida Hospital have announced they will collaborate on the creation of a Personalized Medicine Partnership of Florida (PMP Florida). The partnership will conduct collaborative research to accelerate discovery and develop new treatments in the areas of cancer and metabolic diseases, including obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

PMP Florida will revolutionize health care by creating partnerships among Florida-based centers of excellence in medical research and clinical care. Together, the organizations will develop and utilize new molecular and genomic technologies to discover, translate and personalize interventions for preventing and treating debilitating diseases more efficiently to improve health care outcomes while reducing costs.

PMP Florida will leverage Moffitt’s Total Cancer Care™ to develop similar research and clinical protocols in other disease areas including metabolic diseases. The partnership will hasten the discovery and development of new treatments by bringing together the complementary strengths of Florida Hospital’s large patient population and clinical research expertise; Sanford-Burnham’s fundamental research expertise and technology platforms; and Moffitt’s biospecimen bank, data warehouse and personalized medicine capabilities.

“As a statewide resource for cancer research and treatment Moffitt seeks to foster relationships such as these to maximize the state’s investment in the overall health and well-being of patients,” said William S. Dalton, Ph.D., M.D., CEO and center director of Moffitt. “We feel this partnership will enhance Florida’s national and international reputation in the discovery, translation, delivery and dissemination of care.”

Total Cancer Care is a treatment path that begins by mapping the more than 30,000 genes that make up a tumor to find its own unique genetic fingerprint. Through personalized medicine, Moffitt is working to create individualized therapies that are specific to each patient’s type of cancer, and the way each person responds to the disease and treatment therapies. The approach includes medical, nutritional, psychological, social and physical considerations.

Collaborations between research and clinical organizations are increasing as a means to access complementary resources, attract more sizable grant revenues and enhance the translation of laboratory research to clinical application.

“PMP Florida is a multi-institutional model for combining research and clinical care expertise to advance personalized medical care. Sanford-Burnham will deploy our most advanced technologies to discover molecular signatures of disease that can provide insight for determining appropriate therapeutic interventions,” said John C. Reed, MD, Ph.D., and CEO, Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute. “The technology platforms, collections of patient samples, and medical information sharing create a powerful combination for improving clinical outcomes and reducing health care costs.”

Through PMP Florida, researchers at the partnering institutions will access a robust research and clinical care infrastructure. Bio-samples representing a variety of diseases will be derived from Florida Hospital’s expansive patient population. Pilot projects will utilize Moffitt’s genome mapping, information systems and clinical research protocols developed through Total Cancer Care. The research will be empowered by Sanford-Burnham’s scientific expertise in genomics and metabolomics technology platforms.

“PMP Florida is a unique partnership including three organizations with very complementary areas of expertise and experience,” said Dr. David Moorhead, senior vice president and chief medical officer at Florida Hospital. “Moffitt has demonstrated world class experience and competency in acquiring, categorizing and storing biologic specimens. Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute is renowned for its internationally recognized scientific faculty, multiple sophisticated diagnostic platforms and a commitment to transforming basic science research into clinically available treatments. Florida Hospital is the largest hospital in Florida with broad, innovative and superior clinical expertise. Together, our organizations will have the potential to quickly and successfully advance the scientific development and availability of personalized medicine and to benefit the economic development of our communities.”

One of the objectives of the partnership is to attract industry clients, including pharmaceutical and biotech companies, who will want to utilize this unique resource for discovery and development of new advances in health care. This partnership will exemplify how personalized medicine discoveries made in research labs will improve health care in hospitals, clinics and medical offices in Florida and nationally.
